Generative AI can suggest wording, explain a concept or help organise ideas. Its output can also include mistakes and unsupported details. A useful first experiment is one where you can judge the result yourself and where an error has little consequence.
Choose something manageable
Ask for ideas for organising a reading corner or a draft invitation with invented details. Avoid uploading private documents just to explore a tool. You can learn a great deal with an ordinary example that contains no sensitive information.
Look for assumptions
Read the result slowly. Has the tool added a fact, a promise or a preference you never supplied? Ask it to revise those parts. A confident style is not evidence that a statement is true, especially when a decision could affect health, money or legal rights.
Refine the useful part
Pick one suggestion and ask for a simpler version or a short checklist. Change one aspect of your request at a time so you can see what makes a difference. Keep responsibility for what you eventually use or share.
Try this yourself
Ask for a simple desk-organising checklist, then remove any steps that do not suit your space.
Check your understanding
Which parts were helpful, and which needed your own judgement?
